A Very Nursery Nativity

A Very Nursery Nativity

This week we performed our ‘Very Nursery Nativity’. We were so excited to do our nativity a little bit differently this year and the children were all amazing!

Making A Very Nursery Nativity

First we read The Christmas Story then the children told their own versions and we put them all together to make our script. We love making up our own stories and we tell stories everyday. Click here to see how we make up and act out our own stories or here to see how we change stories. If you want to know more have a look at the Helicopter Stories Blog.

Then we got dressed up and started to film the different scenes. We love making movies in nursery (click here to see some of last year’s movies) so this time we decided to do it a little differently and tried out a green screen. We filmed in front of a big piece of green material and used an app on the Ipad to change the background. The children were very keen to make our angel fly so we tested out different ideas from using a slide to steps and Mr Sieczkarek even came to lend us a hand. The children could play whatever character they wanted and be in the film as much or as little as they wanted to be.

Then the children wanted to film outdoors so we used the grassy bank around school and the shelter in our outdoor area to film some more. After a week of filming Miss Hulme put our video together and we thought of our favourite Christmas songs. We decided to sing Jingle Bells and When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney first then we sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Alice the Camel live as we watched our movie and finished with We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day fast approaching we have had a busy week making things to show our mummies how special they are to us.

We have all tried really hard with our Mother’s Day cards. We drew a picture of our mummies and we had to think very carefully about what they looked like. We chose the right colour for their hair and eyes and thought about what they wear. Then we described our mummies.

089

My mummy is…

“A beautiful princess”

“Clever coz she goes to college”

“Kind coz she gives me cuddles”

“Nice coz she helps me”

“My best friend”

We all had a good try at writing our names in our cards and some of us wrote messages too!

Then we wanted to make a present so we threaded bracelets. It was very tricky and we had to be careful to hold the elastic and thread one bead at a time.

088

Once our presents and cards were ready it was time for our special Mother’s Day performance. We invited our mummies, aunties and grandmas and learnt a special song to sing called Skidamarink. We sang to our grown-ups and gave them our special gifts.

Yesterday was our Mother’s Day Celebration. To celebrate we made cards for our mummies. We drew pictures of our mummies and thought about what they looked like, what colour their eyes and hair were and what they like to wear. We chose how we wanted to decorate our cards.

Then we made our mummies a special present. We used clay to make a sculpture that we thought our mummies would like. We added jewels and stars and beads to make them extra special.

This week we did our Christmas nativities for all of our grown-ups. Our performance this year was full of Maths and all about counting for Christmas!

In nursery we learnt all the songs and the actions. This was the children’s first performance and it can be very scary singing in front of a big audience. Everybody did really well to join in and we hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you to everybody who came and a big well done to all the Reception children too!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Today was a very special day. We invited our mummies, aunties and grandmas to our Mother’s Day performance. We have been getting ready for this morning by making special things for our mummies.

First we made butterfly Mother’s Day cards. We painted our hands in different colours and patterns and printed butterfly wings. Then we painted the body and wrote a message and our names inside.

023

We made jewellery out of salt dough. We mixed 1 cup of water, 1 cup of salt and 2 cups of flour. We added colour and rolled them into beads. Once they were dry we made a pattern and threaded them onto elastic.

We have been trying hard to learn our songs ready for today’s performance. We learnt Skidamarink and a special Mother’s Day song for our mummies.

Humph the Camel

Standard
Humph the Camel

The children worked very hard on this year’s Christmas performance.

It was called Humph the camel. It was a story of a very grumpy camel who liked to say ‘humph’. He didn’t like to talk to the other camels and did not want to travel to Bethlehem. He kept saying ‘humph’ until he saw baby Jesus and he was so excited he sang louder than everybody else!

The children in Reception did a great job of telling the story and playing the parts. They had to remember their words, when it was their time to talk and where they needed to go. The nursery children did some brilliant singing and remembered all the actions.

Well done everybody and thank you to all the grown-ups for coming to see us!
