5 Currant Buns

Standard
5 Currant Buns

This week the children wanted to learn all about currant buns. We have been singing, counting them, buying and selling them, making shops, drawing and painting them. Mrs Brown even hid some of the currant buns and we had to follow the clues to find them and count how many we had!

Most importantly we have been baking currant buns! We had lots of fun and learnt all about what recipes are and how to follow instructions. We learnt all about how to be clean and hygienic when we cook and where germs come from. We weighed and measured our ingredients and looked at changes as we watched the yeast work and the buns rise.

See how we did it…

They were delicious! Why not do some of your own baking at home? Don’t forget we love to see pictures of all your great learning at home 🙂

Safety Week

Standard

What a busy week! Last week was safety week and we learnt all about how to keep ourselves safe.

On Monday we had a visit from a real ambulance, click here to find out more.

On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day and we learnt all about how to keep safe online, click here to find out what we talked about.

In PE all the apparatus was set up dangerously so we had to think about how to make it safe…

Outside our teddy bear was stuck up high and we had to rescue him. We thought about how we would do it safely without hurting ourselves or others.

Inside we learnt about how to keep ourselves safe and thought about germs. We learnt that germs could be everywhere especially in places like toilets. We put up signs to remind us to wash our hands and we stuck pictures of ‘germs’ wherever we thought we might need extra reminders.

We also thought about dangers that might be in our classroom. We made a checklist of things that we had to be extra careful about like using scissors or not running around inside. If we saw anything that we thought was very dangerous we stuck warning signs next to it to remind us to keep safe!

How can you continue learning at home?

See if you can answer these questions –

  • Where might there be lots of germs around your house?
  • When should you wash your hands?
  • Why is it not safe to run indoors?
  • Why is it not safe to touch sockets?
  • What do you need to remember when you use scissors?
  • Which people might keep you safe?
  • What do you need to remember when you go online?
