Happy Father’s Day!

Standard
Happy Father’s Day!

Sunday was Father’s Day so last week we were busy making things for our dads. We made cards and drew a picture of our dad (or a special grown-up like granddad or uncle) and inside we thought about why we loved them.

Then we made medals for our dads and cut out pictures of things we thought our daddies would like and decorated them. On the back we thought about why our daddy had got the medal and what he was the best at.

Some daddies were the best at making dinner or giving cuddles or telling jokes or reading stories.

Today was our special Father’s Day Event. We invited all of our dads, granddads, big brothers and uncles to come to school and play games with us and what a sunny day it was!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Yesterday was our Mother’s Day Celebration. To celebrate we made cards for our mummies. We drew pictures of our mummies and thought about what they looked like, what colour their eyes and hair were and what they like to wear. We chose how we wanted to decorate our cards.

072

Then we made our mummies a special present. We used clay to make a sculpture that we thought our mummies would like. We added jewels and stars and beads to make them extra special.

Then we learnt a special song to sing to our mummies for Mother’s Day. It was called Skidamarink…

Skidamarink a dink a dink, Skidamarink a do, I love you

Skidamarink a dink a dink, Skidamarink a do, I love you

I love you in the morning and in the afternoon, I love you in the evening and underneath the moon,

Skidamarink a dink a dink, Skidamarink a do, I love you, I love you too boo boo bi doo!

We performed our song for our mummies and gave them presents

World Book Day

World Book Day

Today we have had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day. The children came to school in amazing costumes…

imageimage

We loved decorating our door. We have been reading the story ‘Where’s Spot?’ this week so we changed it around a bit to be ‘Where’s Nursery?’

imageimage

We thought of different things that we could hide behind, under, on or in. Then we made them and stuck them to the door so we could lift the flaps. Children even made their own bits to add in their independent learning, see if you can spot Lois’s  chair, Freya’s Duplo house and Blake’s tower.

image

Children took a camera around school and took photos of some of the adults in school. They had to wait until they saw an adult and then say ‘Can we take your picture?’ We cut out the photos of the grown ups and hid them on our door, do you recognise anybody?

Click Here to see everybody else’s amazing doors!

While the children were playing Miss Hulme asked if anybody had a story to tell her. The children all came and waited for their turn to share their own story. Lots of children made up stories about the character they were dressed as. At group time we all worked together to act out everybody’s stories…

Lillie-Rae’s Story

Once upon a time there was a big dragon then he said he would eat the princess. She said, “Don’t eat me I am a princess” The dragon said “I give up, I get you tomorrow”

Sophie’s Story – The Queen

Once upon a time the queen was going to go and save Rapunzel from the tower. Then the king was looking for Rapunzel and then he went to the castle. He went to the castle and he save her and he marry Rapunzel. The queen meet her daughter Rapunzel.

Alissa’s Story

Once upon a time I went to a cowgirl’s house then I met the cowgirl and then I went to a big horse with the cowgirl. The cowgirl fell off then she had some blood then she went to the doctor and the doctor made her feel better.

Rana’s Story

Elsa she can make magic outside. Put her hand and do magic. She walk to beach she got to water and make ice, everybody is going to water, is freezing!

Gracie-Mae’s Story

A gorilla eats nuts then the big bad wolf come and eat him up, all by himself. DINNER, DINNER, DINNER! Happy ever after.

Macey’s Story

Once upon a time there was a big big white cat, he’s actually a rabbit. He goes home plays bouncy balls. The End.

We have been learning to…

  • describe where things are such as under, behind or next to
  • use scissors and glue safely and carefully
  • work together to make a shared piece of work, listening to each other’s ideas
  • speak to new adults in school and ask questions
  • use the camera to take pictures
  • tell stories and understand how stories work
  • understand what a character is

How can you continue learning at home?

The children loved making up their own stories and everybody thought of a story to tell on the spot. Why not tell stories together at home? You could just make them up or you could use dolls or puppets, you could change the endings to books you have at home or mix up the characters from your favourite stories.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We read non-fiction books and found out how Chinese New Year is celebrated. Then we thought about what we would like to do. We decided we would like to try some Chinese Food and definitely do a dragon dance! After reading the story of The Great Race we had races in PE. Yusuff was very interested in speaking Chinese so we learnt how to say Happy New Year in Chinese ‘Gung Hay Fat Choy’.

Here is our floor book with all our ideas ….

We tried using chop sticks and learnt about different Chinese foods.

We tasted beansprouts, noodles, dragon fruit, chow chow and Chinese biscuits and snacks

Then we made our dragon. After looking at year 6’s amazing dragon, instead of using fabric the children decided they wanted lots of boxes stuck together.

We stuck the boxes together and then painted and decorated our dragon

Then we went up to the studio, listened to Chinese music and did our dragon dancing!

We had so much fun and we learnt to…

  • taste different foods
  • talk about how things taste and our likes and dislikes
  • work together to make the dragon move
  • use non-fiction books to find information
  • move to the music, moving our arms up and down and walking forward (very tricky!)
  • we learnt about other cultures and ways of life (we loved trying to eat with chop sticks!)
  • we learnt about colours and textures as we decorated our dragon

Our Christmas Nativity

Our Christmas Nativity

This week we did our Christmas nativities for all of our grown-ups. Our performance this year was full of Maths and all about counting for Christmas!

In nursery we learnt all the songs and the actions. This was the children’s first performance and it can be very scary singing in front of a big audience. Everybody did really well to join in and we hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you to everybody who came and a big well done to all the Reception children too!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Today was a very special day. We invited our mummies, aunties and grandmas to our Mother’s Day performance. We have been getting ready for this morning by making special things for our mummies.

First we made butterfly Mother’s Day cards. We painted our hands in different colours and patterns and printed butterfly wings. Then we painted the body and wrote a message and our names inside.

023

We made jewellery out of salt dough. We mixed 1 cup of water, 1 cup of salt and 2 cups of flour. We added colour and rolled them into beads. Once they were dry we made a pattern and threaded them onto elastic.

We have been trying hard to learn our songs ready for today’s performance. We learnt Skidamarink and a special Mother’s Day song for our mummies.
