Happy Father’s Day!

Standard
Happy Father’s Day!

Sunday was Father’s Day so last week we were busy making things for our dads. We made cards and drew a picture of our dad (or a special grown-up like granddad or uncle) and inside we thought about why we loved them.

Then we made medals for our dads and cut out pictures of things we thought our daddies would like and decorated them. On the back we thought about why our daddy had got the medal and what he was the best at.

Some daddies were the best at making dinner or giving cuddles or telling jokes or reading stories.

Today was our special Father’s Day Event. We invited all of our dads, granddads, big brothers and uncles to come to school and play games with us and what a sunny day it was!

Big Board Game Day 2017 (with printable games)

This morning was our Big Board Game Day Workshop. We invited parents to come and play and make board games to help raise money for NSPCC.

We made our own board games with numbers to ten and played board games too.

Board games are a great way to help teach turn taking, counting and matching colours. Different board games can help to teach different skills too. We focused on numbers to ten in our board games to help the children with counting skills.

The Home Learning Project

Standard
The Home Learning Project

In nursery last year we ran a very exciting project called The Home Learning Project. The aim of the project was to support parents with learning at home, in particular helping children with early maths skills. The project was funded through Early Years Pupil Premium.

We will be running the project again this year. If you would like to be involved please speak to a member of nursery staff. We will also be running weekly workshops in school every Thursday morning.

Each week nursery staff would come and visit parents and children at home and bring a new maths backpack full of fun games, puppets, toys and stories. The nursery staff (Rachael and Lois) would then demonstrate how to use and play with the pack and introduce the games before leaving it for a week. The following week the bag would be swapped for a new pack for the next week. At the end of the 5 weeks families were invited to a celebration event at school where children would receive a medal and certificate.

The children loved having their parents come to work with them at school and having nursery staff come to see them at home. Everybody said they would like to be part of a similar project again and that they saw a difference in their children both in what they knew and their approach to learning.

The Home Learning Project - Parent Feedback

The Home Learning Project - Key SkillsWe will be continuing the home learning project this year. We will be speaking to parents about it in nursery but if you would like to be involved or find out more please chat to a member of nursery staff.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Story Telling

Today was our story telling workshop. We have been learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We learnt the words and actions to help us to remember them. Then we performed the story for our grown-ups.

After that we went back to our classroom and waited for our grown ups…

IMG_1352

When our grown-ups arrived they helped us to order the pictures from the story. We thought about the days of the week and counted the fruit to match the day. We used our scissors carefully and stuck our pictures on in order…

Thank you to all the grown-ups who came. Don’t worry if you missed it, here are the words and story map, why not see if you can have a go at telling the story at home…
